What type of MEWPs are covered under IPAF 3a, 3b and 1b Operator Training?
MEWP is an overall name for powered access platforms which can refer to any type of Mobile Elevating Work Platform / Cherry Picker. The IPAF 3a Operator category covers the safe use of Mobile Vertical machines generally called Scissor Lifts. The IPAF 3b Operator category covers the safe use of Mobile Boom machines which are self-propelled booms and may be articulated or telescopic booms and can be driven at height. The IPAF 1b Operator category covers Static Boom machines which are generally fitted with outriggers and cannot be driven while elevated. 1b Static Boom is an overall category name which includes Van-mounted booms, Truck-mounted booms, Trailer-mounted booms or Spider booms on tracks or wheels. Extra categories

Up to three IPAF MEWP categories can be done on the same training day subject to notice and availability of machines eg 3a Mobile Vertical (Scissor Lift), 3b Mobile Boom and 1b Static Boom

Location
This one day MEWP course on 3a, 3b and 1b IPAF Operator categories is available from any of our training centres: Manchester, London, Glasgow, Newcastle, Midlands / Banbury, Belfast, Dublin, Cork, Portlaoise, Limerick.

On-site training
On-site training on your premises is also available anywhere in the UK and Ireland subject to minimum numbers and having the MEWPs available on site. A suitable room would be required for on-site training for the theory section of the course, and a Scissor Lift / Mobile Vertical and Mobile Boom and Static Boom would be needed for the practical test, if candidates need all three IPAF categories on their PAL card. The MEWP Operator’s Manual and a copy of the current 6 monthly Certificate of Thorough Examination for each MEWP is required.

Certification
Successful delegates will receive a 3a, 3b and 1b IPAF PAL Card valid for 5 years and an IPAF Certificate of Training for the 3a Mobile Vertical, 3b Mobile Boom and 1b Static Boom categories. An IPAF safety guide and an IPAF log book will be given to each delegate on the day of training. Photographs for the operator card are taken on site and included in the price.

Trainee Requirements
Candidates for IPAF MEWP courses must be at least 16 years of age. They must be medically fit to operate machinery.

PPE Requirements
Trainees must have the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment with them to operate the MEWPs i.e. Helmet, Safety Boots, Hi-Visibility Vest, Harness & Adjustable Restraint Lanyard.

It is also suitable for users of Static Booms with outriggers including Spider booms on tracks or wheels, Van-mounted booms, Truck-mounted booms or Trailer-mounted booms.

Course Objectives
To provide delegates with the essential knowledge required to operate various types of MEWPs under three IPAF categories 3a Mobile Vertical, 3b Mobile Boom and 1b Static Boom categories efficiently and safely.
